Introduction

This site aims to provide intelligent, authoritative responses to anyone's question about Islam, whether it be from a Muslim or a non-Muslim, and to help solve general and personal social problems. Responses are composed by Sheikh Muhammad Salih Al-Munajjid, a known Islamic lecturer and author. Questions about any topic are welcome, such as theology, worship, human and business relations, or social and personal issues.
All questions and answers on this site have been prepared, approved, revised, edited, amended or annotated by Shaykh Muhammad Saalih al-Munajjid, the supervisor of this site.
With the spread of Islam world-wide walillah il-hamd and its diffusion into the internet, some sites have been published claiming to serve Muslims and to speak in the name of Islam. However, not all of these sites, which discuss issues relevant to Islam, present accurate and reliable information based on the true beliefs and practices of the Prophet (peace & blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his companions. Thus, there is a need to increase the number of sites providing resources based on these authentic teachings. It is hoped that this site will be among them. The objectives of Islam Q&A include:
to teach and familiarize Muslims with various aspects of their religion
to be a source for guiding people to Islam
to respond to users questions and inquiries to the best of our resources and capabilities
to assist in solving the social and personal problems of the Muslims in an Islamic context
It was decided to make the site all-encompassing, directed towards Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Subject areas include, but are not limited to, Islamic fiqh and jurisprudence, Islamic history, Islamic social laws (including marriage, divorce, contracts, and inheritance), Islamic finance, basic tenets and aqeedah of the Islamic faith and tawheed, and Arabic grammar as it relates to the Quran and Islamic texts.
The responses are handled by Sheikh Muhammad Salih al-Munajjid, using only authentic, scholarly sources based on the Quran and sunnah, and other reliable contemporary scholarly opinions. References are provided where appropriate in the responses. All requests are held with confidence, and replies are available personally and/or publicly (posted to this site).
A database organized by subject areas, containing common as well as previously asked questions, is available for exploring, either by browsing the entire contents or specific subject areas, or by searching for specific keywords. In an effort to maximize efficient use of everyones time and effect the most rapid responses, please be sure to consult the database before submitting a question to make sure it has not already been asked before.

ABOUT MUSLIMMATTERS

Muslimmatters.org began in 2007 as a collaboration between various Bloggers and Shuyukh in order to bring attention to issues faced by Muslims, especially in the West. We have focused on issues of Religion, Society, Ethics, Sex Education, Politics, Civil Rights, Family, as well as the random issues that pop up from now and then, all with some ranting and humor mixed in.
We challenge ourselves and our readers to engage in discourses that touch our lives as citizens of the West, while maintaining our individual Islamic identities: Ultimately to cooperate, but not to compromise

The I Got It Covered (IGIC) weblog was launched on December 29th, 2008. This date corresponds with the 1st of Muharram, 1430 AH, and we felt that it was an appropriate time for a new beginning.
In reality, the idea for the blog had been over a year in the making, and it began as a simple suggestion that Muslim women let the rest of the world know: we wear our hijab willingly. In fact, we like wearing it, so please stop feeling sorry for us and trying to “liberate” us.
While it cannot be said that every woman who wears the hijab does so willingly, we felt that too much attention has been given to that side of the story. There has been so much negativity and so many stereotypes surrounding Muslim women and the hijab, and the last few years have seen fierce political attacks and discriminatory governmental policies preventing Muslim women from dressing the way they would like to. These things cause us pain, to say the least, and we felt that IGIC would help fill a desperate void.
Our mission statement reads as follows:
I Got it Covered is an online network that personifies women everywhere who willingly respond, with love and dedication, to the command of their Lord in wearing the hijab. Through the stories and voices of these women, IGIC exposes the realities behind covering, correcting stereotypes about hijab and becoming a source of inspiration and support for women who wish to pursue wearing it. Doing so, IGIC hopes to create bridges of education, respect and understanding, ultimately sharing the beauty of Islam with the world.
IGIC is a new endeavor, and we invite you to join us in fulfilling our mission. Whether you’re looking for support or would like to give it, or just have a personal story about hijab to tell, we’d love to hear from you! If you’d like to write for IGIC, please look over our submission guidelines. For contact details, visit the contact page. Your comments, advice and suggestions are all welcome.
We ask Allah to make us a source of benefit to the world, and to make the best of our deeds our last. Ameen.
